Cruella film review-spoiler free
I went to see Cruella last night at the theater and the film was absolutely brilliant and blew my mind. First- a hint to those nervous about going to a movie theater. We were able to go online to look at the theater's seating chart. That showed us how many seats were sold for the showing. An hr before leaving we checked again. We also picked a 9:45p.m. showing and were two of only seven people in the theater. There was social distancing and everyone wore masks. So if you can then check if your theater has a seating chart online it will give you a hint of how full the theater will be.
We went hoping the movie would be good. I'm not a fan of live action versions of cartoons or giving Disney villains backstories. Boy was I surprised beyond all measure at how good the film was in ever aspect.
Everyone talks about how good the visuals and costumes are - and they are excellent. the costumes are works of art- filled with incredible details.
But what shocked me was how good the plot was.
Let me stress here as strongly as possible- Cruella is not turned or made good regardless of what reviewers may say. Cruella is young in this film- much younger than in the cartoon. She is very bad but the lesser of two evils in this film but she is by no means good. Her backstory makes so much sense that it actually makes the cartoon better to me. Her journey is believable and I personally can see a clear path from this Cruella to the one in the cartoon and Glenn Close films. It actually makes the cartoon more understandable.
This was also a fun film. I can't remember when I last enjoyed a film this much. The acting is superb and there re no weak links in the cast. I know some reviewers disliked young Cruella in the movie but I loved not just that part but the entire film. It was two hours and I think fifteen minutes maybe slightly less. And for me it didn't drag one bit. I will add this film to my top ten list of favorite films.
It's one that you should see in the theaters if possible. From one to ten stars I'd give it a hundred(Yes I loved it that much). My companion gave it ten out of ten and said it was a perfect film.
Stay past the credits(past the animated drawings etc until it goes back to the live action(film) part there's a little extra bit that is well worth seeing.
